Nandahandi,6th Oct 2025:  A woman undergoing treatment at the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital has died following a bee attack. The deceased has been identified as Neela Patra (57), a resident of Khuntia village under the Nandahandi block headquarters panchayat.

According to reports, on Wednesday, she had gone to the nearby Saruguda village CSC (Common Service Center) with her son to withdraw money. After withdrawing the money, while returning home, she stopped by a forest area to collect firewood and leaves.

As she neared the RMS (Rural Marketing Society) godown, she was attacked by a swarm of bees residing in a banyan tree near the Katabihan Yatra Padia. Locals said the bees had been agitated because a bird (likely a kite) had attempted to prey on the bee hive earlier, making the bees extremely aggressive. Due to this, local people avoided the area out of fear. However, the woman unknowingly approached the tree, unaware of the danger.

As a result, she became the target of a bee attack. A while later, Krishna Chandra Nayak, Director of Operations at Uma Shankar’s Subujadunia organization, along with some local residents, rescued her and took her home, where she was handed over to her family members.

The family immediately rushed her to the District Headquarters Hospital. Despite the doctors’ efforts, she could not be saved due to the severity of the bee stings. Following an autopsy, the body will be handed over to the family, sources said.
