Tentukhunti: The absence of a designated space for the weekly market in the Tentukhunti sub-division has led to the market being set up on the main road, resulting in traffic congestion. This is causing difficulties for buses and other vehicles during peak hours.
Every Tuesday, a weekly market is held in Tentukhunti sub-division. Previously, there was sufficient space for the market, but over time, the establishment of warehouses, community halls, and other structures has reduced the available space. As a result, for the past few years, the market has been operating on the main road, causing severe traffic problems.
The Tentukhunti sub-division houses various important institutions such as the Tehsil office, Utkal Grameen Bank, group health center, police station, post office, panchayat office, and LAMPS (Large Area Multi-Purpose Societies). Due to this, hundreds of people depend on Tentukhunti daily, and a large number of vehicles, including passenger buses, travel through the area. However, on Tuesdays, the weekly market leads to roadblocks, making it difficult for people to move around and for vehicles to pass.
At times, even ambulances face difficulty passing through due to the congestion, causing distress for drivers. Despite the severe traffic issues, no efforts have been made to regulate traffic, leaving the general public to suffer the consequences. Additionally, the lack of space has led to a decline in the demand for the weekly market.
There is growing demand from various quarters to either secure a dedicated space for the market or identify a new location so that the historic market, which has been running since the Raj era, can be restored to its former state.
