Sambalpur, 30th Aug 2025:: TPWDL (Transmission & Power Distribution Limited) has announced a new scheme for residential consumers using up to 1 kilowatt of electricity. Under the scheme, even middle-income families who cannot afford full upfront payment can install a 1 kW rooftop solar system by paying only Rs 8,747.
The cost breakup is:
Rs 5,000 for the rooftop solar system
Rs 3,747 for the solar meter
Total: Rs 8,747
Consumers will also need to sign an agreement with TPWDL, which will install the system on their rooftops. Additionally, they will receive government subsidies totaling Rs55,000 (Rs30,000 from the central government and Rs25,000 from the state government).
The installed system is expected to generate about 100 units of electricity per month, helping households save up to ₹5,000 annually on their electricity bills. TPWDL has also provided 5 years warranty on equipment and 25 years warranty on solar panels.
This initiative is part of the ‘PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme’ and is applicable only to households contracting for 1 kW electricity capacity. The announcement was made during a press conference attended by TPWDL officials including Praveen Sharma, Manoj Pattnaik, Prashant Singh, Ashish Patjoshi, and Rupesh Goel.
