Toppers from 10th Grade Struggle and Fail After Joining College

Bhubaneswar: Students who passed the matriculation (10th) exam with top ranks and got admission in the reputed Rajdhani High School (Yukta 2 College) in the capital city to pursue their higher secondary studies have now shocked everyone with their recent exam results after two years of study.

A study of the last three years’ exam results of government high schools in Bhubaneswar reveals that over a hundred meritorious students from colleges like BJB, Ramadevi, Basic Science, Rajdhani, Maharshi, etc., who passed with distinction in 10th grade, failed to pass the combined higher secondary exams.

This year’s exam results show that all students who scored above the minimum cut-off marks for admission in college after 10th grade could not perform well in the higher secondary exams. For example, in BJB High School, among the general category students in Arts, 19.6% of the toppers admitted failed to pass.

Out of 530 students who appeared for science exams, 490 passed while 40 toppers failed in the 12th grade. Similarly, in commerce, out of 372 students, 356 passed.

The toppers of 10th from BJB, Ramadevi, and Rajdhani colleges who scored above 89% in science and high marks in commerce could not maintain their performance. “Even these students are unable to do well now,” the report states.
