Koraput, 8th Nov 2025: The mesmerizing natural beauty of Koraput has captivated directors and producers from the Tollywood film industry. With its lush green forests, towering hills, and enchanting waterfalls, the region has become a perfect setting for movie shoots. Following the high-budget film Ghati, shooting for another major Telugu film titled Comrade Kalyan is now underway at the Shabar Shrikhetra temple in Koraput. This trend is significantly contributing to the promotion of Koraput district’s tourism potential.
In the past year, prominent Telugu actress Anushka Shetty and Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra visited Koraput for film shootings. Similarly, parts of Pushpa 2 were filmed in neighboring Malkangiri district. During the shooting of Ghati, the film’s director was reportedly spellbound by the beauty of Koraput, inspiring future shoots in the area.
Currently, the filming of Comrade Kalyan, based on Maoist-related themes, is taking place across several scenic locations in Koraput district, including Kalamali, Deomali, Raniduduma, Putsil, Pendajhari, Phulbandh, Chandili, Patraput Bridge, Semiliguda, Koraput, and Jeypore. Four songs and three major scenes are planned to be filmed at these sites. The district police and administration have granted official permission for filming until November 28.
On Thursday, some scenes of Comrade Kalyan were shot at Shabar Shrikhetra. For the shoot, a temporary set of small temple shops selling puja (worship) materials was constructed along the temple road, where a short sequence featuring the hero and heroine was filmed.
The lead role in the movie is played by Telugu actor Sri Vishnu, while actress Mahima Nambiar portrays the female lead. The film, titled Comrade Kalyan, is being produced under Mausam Pictures Production. It is directed by Janaki Ram Marila, and produced by V. Basant Krishna. The choreography is handled by Raghu Master, while Suresh Choudhury, A. Ramakrishna, and T. Goutam are part of the supporting team.
Music director Raghu Bhashan expressed that all the locations in Koraput district are incredibly beautiful and full of natural charm, making them ideal for cinematic storytelling. He added that in the coming days, many more filmmakers are likely to visit Koraput for future productions.
