Kotpad, 20th Oct 2025: Due to the absence of proper signage at various intersections along the new bypass road in Kotpad, frequent accidents are occurring. However, the National Highway authorities have not paid attention to the issue. As a result, many lives are being lost prematurely due to these recurring accidents.
Notably, intersections like Sargiguda Chhak, Ghumar Chhak, Sarigaan Chhak, and Dangari Chhak—where the new and old National Highways intersect—require urgent installation of warning signs and barricades by the National Highway Department. Unfortunately, neither the concerned departmental officials nor the contractors are taking the matter seriously.
As a consequence, three people were seriously injured in two separate accidents on Thursday and were admitted to Jagdalpur Medical College and Koraput Medical College, according to reports.
The first incident occurred around 2 PM on Thursday, when two young men on a bike met with an accident at Ghumar Chhak and were critically injured. Similarly, around 8 PM, a scooter rider suffered serious injuries in an accident at Sargiguda Chhak.
Upon receiving the information, Kotpad police reached the scenes and first provided preliminary treatment at Kotpad Medical, after which the injured were referred to other hospitals.
These incidents have triggered public outrage, and citizens are now demanding that the District Collector intervene immediately and issue instructions for the urgent installation of necessary signage and barricades.
