Three-Day Skill Development Programme on Cattle Rearing Begins at Umarkote

Umarkote, 28th Oct 2025:  A three-day skill development training programme on scientific methods of cattle rearing for profitable dairy farming was organized at the Umarkote Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agricultural Science Centre) from October 16 to 18. The event was conducted in collaboration with the State Department of Animal Resources Development in the conference hall of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

A total of 20 cattle farmers from different villages of Umarkote Block participated in the training. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Shashanka Lenka, Senior Principal Scientist of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in the presence of officials from the Department of Animal Resources Development.

Among the key participants were Dr. Radheshyam Laik, Chief District Veterinary Officer of Nabarangpur; Dr. Manoranjan Nanda, Additional District Veterinary Officer (Animal Production); and several local veterinarians including Dr. Ashish Kumar Mahapatra, Dr. Abhisek Hota, Dr. Ashish Panda, and Dr. Chinmay Nayak. They provided valuable insights to the farmers on various aspects of scientific cattle rearing.

On the second day, the participants visited a dairy farm in Khanda village to gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience. The training covered a wide range of topics including — daily management of dairy farms, scientific housing systems, feed and fodder management, breeding techniques, milk marketing, disease prevention and control, and various government schemes related to dairy farming.

On the final day of the programme, certificates were distributed to all participating farmers. The event was coordinated by KVK scientists Dr. Paritosh Murmu, Rudra Prasanna Mahalik, Binapani Tariya, and Swagatika Mallik. The programme concluded with leading cattle farmers from the district sharing their personal experiences and success stories.
