Malkangiri, Jan, 06: Tarabhu Waterfall in Malkangiri district is attracting tourists. During the New Year, people not only visit the waterfall but also enjoy picnics there. To reach Tarabhu Waterfall, one has to travel from Malkangiri via Balimela or Chitrakonda. The waterfall is about 28 km from Chitrakonda, but the 5–6 km road leading to Tarabhu is in very poor condition. As a result, cars and passenger vehicles face difficulties while traveling.

The tourist spot is located in a very scenic environment. The main attraction here is the sight of water falling from a great height, and the chirping of birds in the surrounding forest adds to the visitors’ enjoyment. Tourists from Malkangiri as well as neighboring districts like Koraput, Nabarangpur, and nearby states such as Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh come to see Tarabhu Waterfall. The waterfall is about 80 km from the district headquarters, Mahakumaru.

Despite the distance, tourists prefer visiting for the natural beauty and picturesque views. While there is a proper road from Chitrakonda to Janbai, repairing the existing road and constructing a new road to Tarabhu could greatly benefit tourists.
