Puri: Due to the neglect of Tata Power Central Electricity Distribution Company in fulfilling their demands, hundreds of temporary electricity workers staged a protest by surrounding the Labor Officer’s office on Monday. The United Forum of Puri Employees has issued a warning that if all demands are not met within 15 days, they will launch a work stoppage and electricity shutdown movement.
Labor leaders Das, Manoj Kumar, Bimal Chandra Nayak, Nrusingha Charan Kumar Rautray, Sheikh Azad, and Vidyadhar Nayak led a procession of hundreds of employees from the control room to the Tata Power Labor Office at Ashram Square. There, they protested and staged a demonstration.
The Labor Officer held discussions with them, and it has been reported that a letter is being drafted to address their demands. The workers are demanding permanent appointments for all temporary employees, compensation of ₹25 lakh for the family of any temporary worker in case of death, an end to the misconduct of officials, and payment of pending dues. They are also demanding that meter readers and electricity bill collectors be recognized as skilled workers under the Odisha Labor Law.
