Nandapur,28th July 2025:  Following the threat of transfer during the rationalization process in Nandapur, teacher Umesh Mallik reportedly suffered a paralytic stroke. In the aftermath of this distressing development, his wife Kalpana met the District Education Officer (DEO) on Friday to express her grievance.

It is alleged that Gurunath Majhi, the Assistant Block Education Officer (ABEO) of Nandapur Block, threatened Umesh Mallik over the phone regarding a transfer. Umesh’s wife claims that the psychological pressure from this threat led to his stroke.

On this basis, the local teachers’ association has submitted a complaint to the Block Education Officer against ABEO Majhi. Kalpana, who came all the way from Bhubaneswar, personally met the District Education Officer and submitted a written complaint. She detailed the threatening phone call and explained her husband’s deteriorating health condition. Kalpana also revealed that she is a cancer patient herself.

She urged the DEO to consider transferring her husband to another school within Nandapur Block instead of outside the district so that both could continue receiving necessary medical treatment. She emphasized that their treatment would be difficult to manage if her husband were transferred outside the district.

District Education Officer Prashanta Mahanti confirmed his awareness of the situation and stated that an inquiry is underway.

On Saturday, a delegation from the Nandapur Block Teachers’ Association — along with Trinath Harijan (President of Koraput District Journalists’ Association) and Rajendra Sahu (Editor) — is scheduled to meet the DEO to further discuss the issue, as informed by the Block Teachers’ Association President Sonia Muduli.
