Teachers Threaten Stir if Central Pay Scale, Old Pension Not Implemented

Bhubaneswar, 5th Sept 2025:  The Primary Teachers’ Association has demanded that primary school teachers be given salary and pension under the central pay scale. The association has alleged that the government has implemented the new education policy for the current academic year without developing the school infrastructure or appointing the required teachers.

The association also complained that the government issued an order to appoint Anganwadi workers for the national preschool program, but the order states that no state is allowed to appoint Anganwadi workers in primary schools. The Primary Teachers’ Association demands that this order be amended so that every primary school can appoint Anganwadi workers.

Warning from the Primary Teachers’ Association:
If there are fewer than 10 children, one Anganwadi worker should be appointed, and for every 10 children, one trained early childhood care and education teacher should be appointed. The association insists on filling the vacant teaching posts in primary schools by developing proper infrastructure.

Earlier, primary teachers have frequently protested for fulfilling their demands. Before the elections, the Chief Minister and the Central Education Minister had assured that the government would give primary teachers salary under the central pay scale, grant regular teacher recognition by uplifting primary education, and provide old pension to all teaching staff. However, none of these demands have yet been fulfilled.

The association demands a salary of Rs. 35,400 under the central pay scale for Label-V teachers, revival of the old pension scheme, promotions, health insurance for teaching staff, and other benefits. If the government fails to meet these demands by Teachers’ Day, the association has warned that it will intensify protests during the upcoming legislative assembly session.

At a meeting held at Shramik Bhavan, the association leaders, including President Brahmananda Maharana, Joint General Editor Agadhu Sethi, Treasurer Gopal Sen, Organization Editor Keshab Chandra Dalai, Executive President Dharanidhar Dhar Mallik, and others such as Srikant Shri Barik, Chintamani Padi, Da Chamodara Panda, Jhuna Mansingh, Santosh Dube, Joint Editor Birupaksha Iks Sethi, Muktiram Panigrahi, Sarat Sethi, Janmenjaya Parida, Dr. and Saroj Behera, issued a warning to the government.
