Nandapur, 28th July 2025: A serious allegation has emerged from Nandapur block, where a teacher’s wife has claimed that her husband, Umesh Mallik, suffered a stroke due to mental stress after being repeatedly threatened with transfer during the surplus rationalization process.
The teacher’s wife, Kalpana Mallik, met the District Education Officer (DEO) on Friday, submitted a complaint letter, and detailed the events that led to her husband’s deteriorating health. She alleged that Assistant Education Officer (AEO) Gurunath Majhi had repeatedly threatened eight teachers over the phone, including Umesh, which ultimately led to the stroke.
Kalpana, a cancer patient herself, emotionally appealed to the DEO for a transfer of her husband outside the district so that both could access better medical facilities. She requested that instead of placing Umesh in another school within Nandapur block, they be transferred to a location where quality treatment for both could be ensured.
The District Education Officer, Prashant Mahanti, confirmed that he has taken note of the complaint and an inquiry is underway.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Koraput District Journalists’ Association President Trinath Harijan, Secretary Rajendra Sahu, and members of the Nandapur Block Teachers’ Association, led by its President Sania Muduli, are scheduled to meet the DEO to discuss the matter in detail and press for action against the alleged misconduct.
