Kotpad, 5th Nov 2025:  The Taratarini Self-Help Group (SHG) of SB Nuagaon village under Kotpad block has become a well-known example of women’s empowerment by creating new products and making women self-reliant. The group, consisting of 10 women, is engaged in a wide range of activities such as mushroom cultivation, making incense sticks (agarbatti) and candles, as well as producing soap, sanitary napkins, phenyl, clay lamps, handloom sarees, home décor items, sweets, and turmeric powder.

Through these initiatives, the women have achieved financial independence. They regularly set up stalls in various government fairs and events to sell their products, which attract many buyers. The group was formed through the initiative of Kiran Kumari of SB Nuagaon village, and they have been receiving bank loans to expand their business. Recently, SBI provided a loan of ₹7 lakh to the group.

According to Kiran, each member now earns ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 per month, thanks to these enterprises. With constant hard work, the members have not only become self-sufficient but also play an important role in supporting their families. Along with group president Kiran Kumari, the key members include Rajeshwari, Samari, Ranjita, Hemangini, Budai, Padma, Usha, Savitri, and Champa.

Kiran added that since the group repays loans on time, the bank has continued to provide them with financial support. The Taratarini SHG has earned a strong reputation at both the district and state levels. With assistance from the State Mission Shakti program, the group has sold its products at exhibitions and fairs in Jeypore, Koraput, Balangir, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, and Vijayawada, achieving good sales and becoming a true symbol of women’s self-reliance.
