Sundargarh Tops Odisha in Tree Plantation with 10 Lakh Saplings

Sundargarh, 23rd Sept 2025:  Sundargarh district of Odisha has emerged as the number one district in the state in terms of tree plantation under the initiative “Ma’ Pain Gachhatie” (A Tree for Mother). Over 10 lakh (1 million) saplings have been planted in various parts of the district as part of this massive green campaign.

Key Highlights:

 On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday (September 17), the state-level event was held in Bhubaneswar, where Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised Sundargarh’s efforts.

 The plantation drive covered:

District HQ, Rourkela Municipal Corporation

All blocks, with saplings planted in over 5000 locations

Schools, Anganwadi centers, hostels, offices, and industrial premises

 Varieties of trees planted:

Mango (ଆମ୍ବ)

Jackfruit (ପଣସ)

Bael (ବେଲ)

Peepal (ପିଜୁଳି)

Medicinal plants and various forest species

Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water

Agriculture

Education (Primary & Higher)

ST/SC & Minority Welfare

Women & Child Development

Industries, Finance, Steel & Mines, etc.

📍 In Talshankara, a district-level program was held with participation from:

Union Minister Jual Oram

Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi

Zilla Parishad Chairperson, Municipality Chairperson, Collector Dr. Subhankar Mahapatra, SP Amritpal Kaur, and many others.

 Students, self-help groups, forest committees, tribal communities, and even third-gender communities participated in the tree plantation.

Tangarpali Sub-event – “Green Belt” Initiative:

Held at Ujjalpura Central Nursery

Led by Minister Jual Oram, Forest Officer Khuswant Singh, IAS trainee Fabi Rasid, Municipality Chairperson Tanaya Mishra, and others.

Local schoolchildren planted trees and took a pledge to protect them.

 Objective:

To not only honor motherhood symbolically but also to enhance forest cover, protect the environment, and promote climate resilience.
