Subhadra Shakti Traditional Food Contest and Public Hearing Held in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur,: Under the direction of the State Government’s Mission Shakti Department and in collaboration with the Nabarangpur district Mission Shakti wing, a “Subhadra Shakti Traditional Food Competition” was held at Mandeipada on the occasion of the District Level Development Fair. The competition aimed to promote and celebrate Odisha’s rich and diverse traditional cuisine.

From earlier block-level competitions, 10 top-ranked women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) along with other SHGs participated in this event. The program was held on 12.06.2025, with Hon’ble MLA of Nabarangpur, Gauri Shankar Majhi, serving as the chief guest. District Collector Dr. Shubankar Mahapatra, Superintendent of Police Sandip Sampat, and Municipality Chairperson Kunu Nayak were also present.

The dignitaries emphasized the importance of Odisha’s nutritious traditional food for a healthy life and its role in women empowerment. On 14.06.2025, the food competition was judged by Additional District Collector Tapan Kumar Khuntia, NRSC Coordinator, and Food Safety Officer of Nabarangpur. They evaluated various dishes prepared by SHGs.

Among the high-quality and skillfully prepared dishes, the “Swagatika SHG” of Nabarangpur secured the first position, “Lakshmi Narayani SHG” of Umerkote came second, and “Tangligudai Murtiya Ku Dway SHG” of Dabugaon Block came third. These groups were awarded prizes and certificates during the inauguration program of the Development Fair. The first-place winner will represent the district at the upcoming state-level Subhadra Shakti Traditional Food Competition.
