Nabarangpur, 15th Nov 2025: The Odisha Revenue Officials’ Association has welcomed the State Government’s decision to modify its land reform policy.
The Association’s President Lokeshwar Sahu, Chairman Tripati Balaji Sahu, General Secretary Naresh Chandra Mohapatra, Working President Prasanna Kumar Nayak, and Advisor Kailash Chandra Dash have thanked the government for this historic step. They have also requested the creation of necessary new posts in the tehsil offices to support the implementation of this policy.
Earlier, to amend land records or pattas of land purchased before the settlement process, buyers had to approach the Board of Revenue, Cuttack. Later, the government assigned this responsibility to the Revenue Commissioner. However, it was not possible for all people to reach the Revenue Commissioner’s office, which caused delays in resolving many revenue cases. People were also forced to spend large sums of money but were still deprived of timely justice.
Subsequently, to simplify the process further, the government delegated these powers to the District Collectors starting from 2017. But due to the heavy workload of the Collectors, these appeals remained pending for years, causing severe inconvenience to the public.
Considering this, the State Government has now empowered Tahasildars to handle these matters. As a result, people who have purchased land legally before settlement can now apply directly to the concerned Tahasildar to have the patta recorded in their own name.
