Cuttack , Jan 29: The State Bar Council has announced that it will inform the State Government about its four-point charter of demands. These include the establishment of a Lawyers’ Academy to provide proper training to young advocates, increasing the Advocates’ Welfare Fund from Rs 10 crore to Rs 50 crore, framing rules to ensure the safety and security of advocates, and raising the financial assistance provided to advocates after retirement or death from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.
The demands were discussed at an important meeting of the State Bar Council held today. It was decided unanimously by all members present that the above proposals would be passed and submitted to the State Government for consideration, as informed by Council President Sitanshu Mohan Dwivedi during a press conference.
He further stated that certain internal issues have arisen within the Bar Council, and a committee has been formed to resolve them. The eight-member committee will meet with the Advocate General and the Law Minister to resolve all issues amicably through mutual understanding.
The meeting was attended by Vice-President Rajeev Mohanty, senior advocate and Council member Sourachandra Mohapatra, member advocates Debi Prasad Dhal, Manas Chand, Vibhu Prasad Tripathy, Arupa Nanda Das, Lakshmi Narayan Patel, and other members.
