Umarkote, 15th Sept 2025: The national highway passing through Dhodra Panchayat under Jharigaon Block of Nabarangpur district has become waterlogged due to the failure to properly drain rainwater. The drainage system alongside the road is completely clogged, resulting in the highway now looking like an artificial pond.
Even after the rains stop, stagnant, dirty rainwater continues to flow along the edges of the main road, affecting the entire stretch through the Panchayat. This situation is causing severe inconvenience to students, office-goers, and the general public trying to travel through the area.
Due to persistent rainfall caused by monsoon activity and low-pressure systems, this route is frequently used by buses, cars, and local travelers, who are now facing serious difficulties. The clogged drains, which haven’t been cleaned or repaired for years, are a major cause of the issue.
Moreover, some local shopkeepers have been treating the drains like dustbins, dumping used tea cups, plastic wrappers, cardboard, and other waste materials. In some places, people have even been seen burning garbage inside the drains.
Many of the drains are now completely choked with mud, weeds, and wild vegetation, making it impossible for water to flow. The lack of regular cleaning and maintenance has led to this unhygienic and problematic condition.
Local residents have demanded immediate attention from the administration, including:
Proper drainage cleaning
Awareness campaigns for responsible waste disposal
Restoration of the drainage system and mud removal
