Bhubaneswar, 22nd Oct 2025:  The State Subordinate Service Board (SSB) appointed lecturers demand that they be given the Grade Pay of ₹6,000. This should be implemented retrospectively from 2016. The State SSB Lecturers’ Association has made this demand to the state government to revise the grade pay of SSB lecturers.

Today, more than a thousand SSB lecturers gathered at the Loya Law PMG (venue). The association complained that even though they teach in degree colleges, they receive lower salaries compared to teachers in model schools. They perform the same duties as lecturers appointed by the OPSSC (Odisha Public Service Commission), but they do not receive the same salary or recognition.

The association has also pointed out that the salaries of lecturers appointed in grant-in-aid colleges and government colleges were once equal. In 2006, the pay scales were revised, and grant-in-aid lecturers were upgraded to a ₹6,000 grade pay. However, since 2016, lecturers appointed by the SSB have been paid only at the ₹4,600 pay scale, which is ongoing injustice.

Therefore, the association demands that SSB lecturers be paid according to the ₹6,000 grade pay. They also demand recognition as government employees, pension benefits, gratuity enhancement, amendment of Section 7C of the Odisha Education Act, 1974, independent leave for women lecturers, promotions during tenure, and recognition as Assistant Professors.

The association’s leadership includes Vice-President Manas Ranjan Sahu, General Secretary Gaurav Sharma, Joint Secretary Tulasi Raut, Treasurer Gayadhar Mallik, and Joint Treasurer Tathagat Raut, who are actively leading the movement.
