Bhubaneswar, 14th Nov 2025: Renowned scientist and Chairperson of the M.S. Swaminathan Foundation, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, paid a courtesy visit to Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik at his residence on Tuesday evening.
During the meeting, Dr. Swaminathan highly appreciated the various developmental initiatives undertaken in Odisha during Naveen Patnaik’s tenure as Chief Minister, particularly the successful measures for poverty eradication.
She praised the Millet Mission, noting that it has not only gained wide popularity but also significantly contributed to the economic empowerment of tribal communities. She further commended the Mission Shakti program, describing it as a major force in empowering women across Odisha and strengthening the rural economy.
The two also discussed the ongoing activities and programs of the M.S. Swaminathan Foundation.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Soumya Swaminathan previously served as the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and as the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization (WHO). She is the daughter of the legendary agricultural scientist and father of India’s Green Revolution, Late Dr. M.S. Swaminathan.
