Sludge Removal Drive Launched at Jagannath Sagar in Jeypore

Jeypore: Restoration work of the historic Jagannath Sagar in Jaypur has officially begun on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The contract for the project, which had previously stalled midway due to funding delays under the MUKTA scheme and political disputes, has now been resumed by the qualified agency “Reps Infratech” from Kokasara, selected through a recent tender process.

The project had created a contentious political atmosphere in the city, but after the tender process concluded, Reps Infratech was deemed suitable to undertake the work. On this auspicious day, the sludge removal operation has been initiated.

In the first phase, the water will be drained to facilitate soil excavation. Currently, approximately 70% of the Sagar is filled with sludge, while only 30% contains soil. Given the severity of the siltation, the tender specifically prioritized sludge removal.

According to the municipal authority, the contracted agency is now accelerating the sludge removal process under the administration’s directives.
