Bhubaneswar, 13th Nov 2025:: The Department of Revenue and Disaster Management has released the official list of government holidays for the year 2026. According to the list, a total of 29 government holidays have been declared for government employees, revenue offices, and magistrate courts (administrative offices).
However, six of these holidays fall on a second Saturday and will not be observed as official holidays. This year, Mahashivaratri, Pahili Raja, Mahashtami, Kumar Purnima, and Diwali fall on a Sunday, and Mahalaya falls on the second Saturday, so these days will not be counted as government holidays.
Similarly, optional holidays such as Bahuda Yatra in the Revenue Department, Brahma Samaj Foundation Day, Anla Navami, Pratham Ashtami, and Christmas amounting to nine optional holidays cannot be availed by government employees. Like the current year, next year the Nuakhai festival will be observed as a two-day holiday, with Nuakhai Day and the following day declared as government holidays.
In 2026, out of the 29 holidays, six fall on weekends and thus government employees will get six fewer holidays officially.
According to the Nuakhai announcement, holidays for Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, Sub-Events Two-Day Holiday, Easter Saturday, and Raja Ram Mohan Jayanti are also included in the official list.
