Six Government Holidays Coincide With Weekly Off Days This Year

Bhubaneswar, 18th Nov 2025: The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has published the list of government holidays for the year 2026. A total of 29 government holidays have been announced for government employees, Revenue offices, and Magistrate Court (Executive) offices. However, six of these holidays will be lost as they fall on the second Saturday or Sunday. This time, Mahashivaratri, Pahili Raja, Maha Ashtami, Kumar Purnima, and Diwali fall on Sundays, while Mahalaya falls on the second Saturday. Therefore, these days have not been declared as government holidays.

Similarly, there are nine optional holidays such as Bahuda Yatra, Brahmo Samaj Foundation Day, Anla Navami, Pratham Ashtami, and Christmas.g Government employees may avail any one of these as a holiday. Like the current year, next year too Nuakhai will have two holidays—Nuakhai day and the following day—both declared as government holidays.

In 2026, out of the 29 holidays, six fall on Sundays or weekly off days, reducing the number of effective holidays for government employees.
