Nandapur5th Aug 2025: The residents of Badel village under Kularsingh Panchayat in Nandapur Block have been facing a severe water crisis for the past three years. The village’s only tube well has remained non-functional for a long time, leaving around 120 people from nearly 35 families with no access to safe drinking water.
Due to the inoperative tube well, women from the village are forced to walk 1.5 kilometers to the banks of a river near Jolaput Reservoir, where they dig makeshift pits (locally called chuas) to collect water.
Villagers like Laxman Dora, Hari Karsani, Sadhu Kirsani, and Ghasiram Dora have said that repeated requests for repairs have been made to the panchayat and block administration, but no action has been taken so far.
Responding to the villagers’ plight, Rural Water Supply Engineer Kahnu Charan Sethy stated that a repair team will be sent within a day or two to restore the defunct tube well and resolve the village’s drinking water problem.
This continued negligence has led to tremendous hardship for the women, who are seen daily hauling water from the river, risking their health and safety.
