Bhubaneswar, 16th Oct 2025: There has been a long-standing demand to declare Bhubaneswar as a separate district. Various organizations have consistently carried out movements, submitted memorandums, and organized extensive campaigns in this regard.
On Sunday, a signature collection campaign was organized by the Bhubaneswar Independent District Campaign at the Kedarnath Research Institute. The campaign, coordinated by Lingaraj Sahu, saw participation from writers, poets, literary figures, and senior citizens, who signed in support of the demand.
The chief advisor of the event and President of the Kedarnath Research Institute, Raghunath Mishra, stated that all necessary facilities are already in place for Bhubaneswar to become a district. Given the population and its status as the capital city, it is high time this demand is fulfilled.
Key Supporters and Participants:
- Poet Tanaya Das Goswami
- Literary figure Debashis Mahapatra
- Professor Sharata Rath
- Vivekananda Panigrahi, Nirmal Kumar Mahapatra, Manmatha Satapathy
- High Court advocate Saroj Kumar Sahu, Arun Kumar Nayak
- Several other poets, writers, intellectuals, and senior citizens took part and supported the demand.
- All participants agreed that Bhubaneswar deserves district status and supported the movement with their signatures.
Public Participation:
Members and elders from Jayadev, Ekamra, Bhubaneswar Central, and Bhubaneswar North constituencies, along with various puja committee members, also joined the campaign and signed the petition.
A joint platform named ‘Milita Mahamancha’ has been formed to support the campaign. Villagers from Bhubaneswar outskirts—including Balianta, Balipatna, Nakhara, and others—along with people associated with Baliyatra, the Bhubaneswar Court, and more, have been actively collecting signatures for the past two years.
The organizers have decided that the compiled signatures will be submitted to the government as part of a formal demand for district status.
