Bhubaneswar, 11th Oct 2025: A shipbuilding cluster will be established on the banks of the Mahanadi River in Kendrapada district, opposite the ESCO plant in Paradip. This ambitious project will involve an investment of ₹24,700 crore.
On Friday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Paradip Port Authority and the Odisha Maritime Board in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, marking the beginning of this major maritime infrastructure project. The initiative aims to place India among the top five shipbuilding nations in the world.
Key Highlights of the Project:
- Investment: ₹24,700 crore
- Location: Opposite Paradip ESCO plant, Kendrapada district, Odisha
- Land Area: 2,000–2,500 acres
- Capacity: One or more shipyards with a combined annual capacity of 1–2 million gross tonnage
Project Features:
The shipbuilding cluster will include a dedicated riverside corridor spanning 2 to 2.5 kilometers, designed to support all ship construction activities.
- The cluster will accommodate:
- Engine manufacturing units
- Steel fabrication plants
- Equipment suppliers
- It will also house various ancillary industries to support shipbuilding.
- In addition to industrial units, the project will feature:
- Administrative offices
- Training centers
- Research and development (R&D) facilities
- To expedite the project, both the Paradip Port Authority and the Odisha Maritime Board will take steps to develop the land and riverfront areas.
