Malakanagiri, 22nd Aug 2025:The Shikhapalli–Padia road in Shikhapalli Panchayat, Malakanagiri block has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time due to lack of repairs. Potholes along the road have caused serious difficulties for vehicles, leading to delays in commuting.
Government officials, including teachers, PEOs, agriculture workers, health workers, and Panchayat field staff, have also faced inconvenience while traveling this road. Commuters from Malakanagiri Sadar traveling via Shikhapalli to Padia report reaching their destinations late due to the poor road condition.
The road was originally constructed by the Rural Development Department before 2016. After being transferred to the Malakanagiri Works Department in 2016, it has suffered from lack of maintenance for the past 9 years, leaving the 37 km stretch in a deplorable state. The entry points to Padia from Persanpalli, Materu, Telmagada, Kataguda are full of potholes and damaged sections, making travel extremely difficult.
Due to continuous neglect and lack of attention from authorities and local leaders, the road remains flooded during the rainy season, and motorcycle and vehicle accidents are frequent. In many areas, the culverts or pipelines are missing, forcing water to flow over the road, blocking traffic completely.
Following inquiries with departmental engineers, tenders have now been called to reconstruct the road, and construction is expected to begin once the tender process is completed.
