Cuttack,18th Oct 2025: During the recent festival of Parban and Kompu, the services of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) have been completely disrupted. As a result, garbage is still piling up in the streets, and drains are clogged with floating waste. Despite the fear of waterlogging due to light rainfall, CMC has made no preparations to tackle the situation, exposing the administration’s negligence.
Additionally, problems like streetlight failures have worsened in many areas. Even though residents have complained by calling the control room, the authorities have only registered the complaints without taking effective action, frustrating the public.
Due to CMC’s failure in preparations for Dussehra, the city faced numerous problems with roads and traffic. Large potholes appeared on main roads near the Puja Mandap and surrounding areas, causing trouble for pedestrians and vehicles alike. The roads connecting Chhata Nagar to Malgodam and other Puja Mandaps were in a worrying condition.
Despite complaints, the officials seem to only register them and then consider their duty done.
The biggest issue is that during Parban and Kompu last week, even emergency services of CMC were disrupted. Garbage remained uncollected from the streets, causing foul smells in various parts of the city. Though there have been some improvements in the city’s computer-based management, the overall cleanliness and sanitation situation remain poor.
Mayor Subash Singh has stated that various problems in the city have been discussed with officials today. Directions have been given to CMC to improve the situation urgently. Efforts are being expedited.
