Malkangiri: A tragic news has emerged from the border area of Motu in Malkangiri district. Masoom Khan, a senior leader of the Motu region, has passed away. He was a former samiti member of Motu Panchayat and a veteran Congress leader who later became associated with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Masoom Khan, aged 60, breathed his last at a private hospital named Ksheems in Bhadrachalam, Telangana, where he had been undergoing treatment. He had been suffering from cancer for a long time and passed away on Tuesday. Following his demise, a wave of mourning has spread throughout the local region.

Khan was known as a popular mass leader and a strong organizer. He played a significant role in the development of the tribal areas, particularly the Motu Panchayat. Renowned for his soft-spoken personality, he was admired by people across various sections of society.

Earlier in his political journey, Khan was a key figure in strengthening the Congress party’s organizational structure not only in the Motu region but throughout Malkangiri district. In recent years, he joined BJD alongside Pradeep Majhi, after which many locals also switched allegiance to BJD, influenced by his decision.

Masoom Khan was such a revered figure that the tribal population of the region followed his guidance faithfully. He was vocal about the upliftment of tribal areas and made strong demands for their development at the state political level.

Upon hearing the news of his demise, a shadow of grief fell over the political landscape of the region. His last rites will be conducted with full respect and participation from political leaders and local residents, in recognition of his contributions and legacy.
