Senior Citizens’ Club Holds Legal Awareness Workshop in Mahanga to Tackle Elder Abuse

Mahanga, 22nd July 2025: A literary and legal awareness event focusing on elder abuse prevention was organized by the Senior Citizens’ Club at Koṭhapada, under Mahanga block, at the Ganakabi Baishnab Pani Kala Niketan.

The event, chaired by educationist and Club President Kailash Chandra Balabantray, featured key participation from Vice-President Ramachandra Mahapatra, teacher leader Mathurananda Samal, Treasurer Prabhakar Das, and members Kamalakanta Panda, Shukadeva Swain, Sudhir Kumar Mohanty, Maguni Charan Samal, Lakshmidhar Samal, Ramesh Chandra Jena, and Bimbadhar Sahu.

Participants discussed the various challenges faced by senior citizens, including neglect or exploitation by the younger generation. The discussions highlighted issues faced by elders in government offices, banking services, and other sectors. Members shared legal perspectives and advice on addressing these problems.

During the workshop, Joint Secretary and educationist Alekh Chandra Das introduced the guests, while General Secretary Ratnakar Mohanty presented the annual report and outlined the objectives of the event.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Prabhakar Das. Notably, the program will continue over a three-day period.
