Tangi, 18th Nov 2025: Pushpalata Bess has emerged as an inspiration by earning her own livelihood and motivating others to do the same. To support her family and assist her husband, she learned the art of cake-making. She has showcased her creations online, reaching nearly 1,000 women “food gurus”.
Pushpalata Rautaray, a housewife and wife of Shrikumar Rautaray of Tangi, has been actively involved in self-employment initiatives. On 10 August 2013, she formed a local self-help group. Through this group, she gained training on skill development and self-reliance. In 2022, her interest in making cakes grew, and she decided to pursue it seriously.
To prepare her cakes, she sourced ingredients from S.M. Projen World, Jagamara, Bhubaneswar. Using her creativity, she designed cakes with careful attention to detail. Gradually, her efforts began attracting attention online and generated some income. Inspired by her initiative, around 20 local women started actively assisting Pushpalata in the cake-making process.
Pushpalata now provides online training and guidance to women in Tangi, Ranpur, Kamaguru, Sarapari Rameshwar, Malipada, Chandpur, Kuhudi, Banpur, Sijo, Khordha, Badapari, and Rupanirmalya (Lokanalaya). The self-help group is chaired by Anita Sasmal, with Kamala Majhi serving as editor.
