Jeypore, 5th Nov 2025: After a tragic incident in which lives were lost due to not wearing seat belts in night-time buses, the government’s Transport Commissioner and the Fire Services Department, under the direction of the D.I.G., organized a fire safety awareness campaign at the Koraput bus stand.
During the program, drivers and conductors were trained on the priority of seat belt usage, how to use the available fire safety kits, how to alert emergency number 112, and how to identify fire-prone areas. They were also trained to safely evacuate passengers in case of a fire.
It was decided that every bus will be equipped with a fire safety kit, and bus owners’ associations held meetings to ensure compliance. Bus owners were informed that use of fire safety kits in buses will be made mandatory, and awareness sessions will be regularly conducted.
The program was attended by Sheikh Kasim, President of Ghorai Bus Owners Association; Chandrakala Nayak, senior regional transport officer; Avani Kumar Swain, Deputy Director of Fire Services, Koraput; Suresh Kumar Barik from Jeypore Fire Office; and other employees of the Fire Services Department.
