Bhubaneswar: Preparations have begun ahead of school reopening on June 20. The Department of School and Mass Education has issued directives to clean everything from classrooms to toilets. Schools are instructed to clean classrooms, the campus, and remove overgrown bushes and weeds in the premises.
Mid-day meals will be served to students from the very first day of reopening. Therefore, the department has directed checks on kitchens and drinking water facilities before that. All teachers, non-teaching staff, cooks, and helpers have been instructed to report for duty a day prior, on June 19.
To ensure compliance, district and state-level monitoring teams have been advised to inspect the preparations. In particular, district and block education officers are expected to play a key role. Due to the severe summer this year, the state government had earlier announced an early summer vacation. Since schools are reopening after almost two months, extra focus is being placed on hygiene and cleanliness, especially in areas related to the mid-day meal scheme.
Emphasis on Cleanliness Before Reopening
As per the department’s annual academic calendar, all government and government-aided secondary schools, high schools, upper primary, and primary schools across the state will reopen on June 20. Hence, all classrooms and campuses are to be cleaned thoroughly. Water tanks are to be cleaned, furniture arranged, and toilets made fully usable.
For mid-day meals, preparations like cleaning the kitchen, checking gas stoves, and ensuring supporting infrastructure must be completed. The department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure the readiness of smart classrooms, e-libraries, and internet connectivity.
