Bhubaneswar: To improve the quality of pre-primary education, the State Government has given special attention to the initiative. ‘Shishu Batis’ (pre-primary classrooms) have been opened in 45,000 schools across the state. A ‘Shishu Sebika’ (Childcare Attendant) will be appointed in each of these Shishu Batis, as announced by the Chief Minister recently.

Today, the Department of School and Mass Education issued a notification stating that the responsibility of appointing Shishu Sebikas will lie with the respective School Management Committees (SMCs). The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) will issue separate guidelines for the recruitment process.

Key Points:

Monthly honorarium:Rs3,000 per Shishu Sebika

Appointment in 45,000 schools

OSEPA will issue detailed guidelines regarding their roles and responsibilities.

According to the notification, after their appointment, the department will approve the disbursement of honorarium. The funds will be provided from the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan budget.

Shishu Sebikas will be responsible for taking care of small children in the classrooms. Since these duties were earlier managed by teachers—hindering their core teaching work—Shishu Sebikas will now assist with non-teaching tasks, thereby reducing the workload of teachers. As a result, teachers can focus more effectively on teaching, which is expected to enhance the quality of pre-primary education.
