Bandhamunda,7th Aug 2025: An ultra-modern depot for the maintenance and operation of Vande Bharat trains will be constructed in Rourkela under the South Eastern Railway Zone. The project is expected to cost around ₹400 crore.
This announcement was made by South Eastern Railway General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra during his recent visit. He stated that Rourkela has been strategically chosen due to its significance as a key railway junction connecting eastern and central parts of the country.
The proposed depot will handle the inspection, repair, cleaning, and other technical operations of Vande Bharat trains. Railway sources indicated that detailed project planning is already underway. The depot is likely to be built on vacant land in the Bandhamunda railway section.
This will be the first and largest Vande Bharat depot under the South Eastern Railway, according to officials. Once operational, it is expected to boost local employment opportunities and improve convenience for passengers by ensuring timely and efficient train services.
The announcement has generated great excitement among Rourkela residents, who see it as a major step toward the region’s development.
