Nabarangpur, 17th Nov 2025:  Earlier, buyers of land purchased before settlement had to first approach the Board of Revenue, Cuttack to correct any wrong land records (patta) issued by settlement officers during the settlement process. Later, the government vested this responsibility with the Revenue Commissioner. However, it was not possible for everyone to reach the Revenue Commissioner to get their work done, due to which many revenue cases remained pending and unresolved. As a result, people were deprived of justice despite spending large amounts of money.

To simplify the process further, from 2017 onwards, the government empowered District Collectors to handle such cases. But due to the heavy workload of district collectors, these appeals remained pending for years, and people faced difficulties travelling repeatedly to the district headquarters for resolution.

Considering these issues, the state government has recently taken a historic and transformative step by granting correctional powers to Tahasildars to ensure timely justice for the public. With this reform, buyers who had legally purchased land before the settlement process can now apply to the concerned Tahasildar to correct the patta and record it in their own name. This will help the public receive justice within a reasonable time.

The Odisha Revenue Officers’ Association has welcomed this landmark decision. Association President Lokeshwar Sahu, Chairman Tripati Balaji Sahu, General Secretary Naresh Chandra Mohapatra, Executive President Prasanna Kumar Nayak, Convenor Kailash Chandra Dash, and others thanked the government. They also requested that necessary new posts be created in Tahasil offices to effectively implement this new responsibility.
