Bhubaneswar, Nov 26:  The Odisha New Grant (Block Grant) Retired Teachers and Employees Association will raise a protest demanding pension and gratuity payments, post-retirement financial benefits, and other entitlements for teachers and staff of 608 schools.

The association has warned that if the government continues to adopt a delaying policy regarding pension and gratuity disbursement, they will stage a demonstration in front of the Legislative Assembly and may undertake a hunger strike in the coming days.

According to the association, like teachers and employees of fully funded 608 schools, they also retire at the age of 60. However, the law does not currently recognize the rights of teachers and staff of the 608 grant-in-aid schools.

On 12 April 2014, the High Court delivered a verdict in favor of the association.

Currently, in the state, 5,900 teachers from 2,551 new grant-in-aid high schools and 935 upper primary schools have retired, struggling with serious difficulties in life. Among them, nearly 400 have passed away.

The association has urged the government to take immediate steps to fulfill their demands.
