Jeypore,25th Sept 2025: People from seven panchayats—Mathalput, Mari Chamala, Litiguda, Dumuripadar, Mujang, and Charangul—are demanding the formation of a new block called Damanjodi.
A proposal has been submitted to the government to grant NAC (Notified Area Council) status to Damanjodi. However, the local residents are insisting that instead of NAC, what they actually need is a separate block.
Representatives and local residents have submitted a memorandum to the District Collector demanding the formation of a new block in Damanjodi. The demand for this block formation has been ongoing for many years, but the government has not paid any heed to it, they complain.
The locals rely on the Koraput block, which is approximately 70 kilometers away via a difficult route, causing unnecessary expenses and hardships for the people. The new Damanjodi block would benefit the residents of around seven nearby panchayats, according to the local community.
The district administration points out that the area is mostly inhabited by poor people. If NAC status is granted, they would have to pay taxes, which they cannot afford. Therefore, the locals insist that they do not want NAC status but a new block instead.
They have submitted the demand letter to the District Collector and plan to personally meet the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister tomorrow to present their demand letter.
During the submission of the memorandum, senior Congress leaders Krishna Kuldeep and Ramin Kuldeep, along with Damodar Jani, President of the Block Reorganization Implementation Committee, and representatives from the seven panchayats, were present.
