Renewed Demand for Statehood for Undivided Koraput Region

Nabarangpur, 24th Sept 2025:  The Nabarangpur Action Committee has demanded the formation of the undivided Koraput district as a new separate state and held a local satisfaction press conference. The conference was chaired by convenor Lalit Mohan Nayak. Among those present were lawyer Ramprasad Patra, Manasita Takri, Anarkali Kuldip, advisor Gyanendra Pattnayak, treasurer Ranjan Karmika, organization editor Sanatan Dash, S.D. Sudhir Patra, Abdul Sattar, and Tinku Jain.

The demand for a new state was discussed at a meeting held on May 10 in Jeypore. Following the meeting, a committee on August 25 submitted a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister, and Home Minister, as informed by convenor Mr. Nayak.

The language and culture of undivided Koraput district are entirely distinct. The government earns a profit of Rs. 7,500 crores from four hydroelectric projects. The districts of Rayagada and Koraput are rich in mineral resources. However, despite this wealth, the development of undivided Koraput has not progressed. Education, health, and transportation conditions are deplorable. Due to the lack of district-based appointments, the number of vacancies continues to rise.

External businessmen exploit farmers in the agriculture sector. Due to the shortage of doctors, people depend on hospitals in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Bhubaneswar, or modern facilities in Cuttack. The number of illegal immigrants is also increasing in undivided Koraput. The border dispute has been ongoing for many days.

For the preservation of traditional culture, dance, music, and economic security, a separate identity is necessary. Hence, the formation of a new state is essential, said Mr. Nayak.
