Remuna,13th Aug 2025: Along with the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, six members have been appointed. Among them is Ms. Sujata Nayak (54), a native of Ganeshwarpur area in Remuna. Her late father, Basanta Kumar Nayak, was a police officer, and her mother, Kanaklata, is a homemaker.
Sujata, a senior journalist with an English daily, is married to Sanjeev Kumar Nayak of Paralakhemundi and currently resides in Bhubaneswar. She graduated from Kuntalakumari Sabat Women’s College, Balasore, and earned her M.A. in History from Utkal University, Vani Vihar, after which she devoted herself to social work.
During her student days, she was actively involved in student politics through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Later, she participated in various women and child development programs in different states of North India.
Interestingly, the college from which she graduated invited her as an alumna to attend a program for the institution’s development. While she was present there in the afternoon at 2 p.m., the announcement of her appointment as a Commission member was made—something she considers a remarkable coincidence.
Sujata stated that she will carry out the important responsibility entrusted to her by the government with full dedication.
