Remote Areas Reel Under Severe Drinking Water and Mobile Network Crisis

Mayurbhanj:– The residents of Kakudiruma village under Luhasila Gram Panchayat in Bijatala block of Mayurbhanj district had hoped that the drinking water crisis would be resolved through a water supply project. Though a mega drinking water project was constructed in the village, pipelines were laid, and electricity connections were provided five years ago, the project has yet to become operational. As a result, villagers continue to suffer due to the lack of safe drinking water.

Out of the five tube wells in the village, two have become non-functional, while the remaining three are not sufficient to meet the needs of all households. A single water tanker provided by the administration is inadequate to quench the villagers’ thirst. Left with no choice, residents are being forced to use polluted water from a nearby pond.

Similarly, the area suffers from poor mobile network connectivity. In today’s digital age, when most tasks—whether it’s student education, providing rice to BPL beneficiaries, or financial transactions—are conducted online, thousands of residents from Luhasila, Saragada, Chadheipahadi, Madheikacha, and Manikpur panchayats remain cut off due to poor network access. This network issue is also hindering various developmental activities in the region.

People have high hopes from the current double-engine government. If the central government pays attention to this matter, the drinking water crisis can be resolved, and the local population would be greatly benefited.
