Bhubaneswar: The government has lifted restrictions on the sale of agricultural land, including for fiting (splitting) plots. However, such land can only be used for agricultural purposes. The Housing and Urban Development Department has issued a notification amending the previous rules.

As per the new amendment, land parcels of less than 500 square meters (approximately 5382 square feet) can now be sold without requiring any layout approval. Agricultural land can be split and sold only for farming purposes, but cannot be used for house construction or any other non-agricultural purposes.

If someone wants to convert agricultural land for other uses, they must apply through the prescribed process for land use conversion.

Major update: If land is divided within a family, there is no need to seek approval, and for already divided land (subdivision plots), layout approval is not required.
