Bhubaneswar, 6th Nov 2025: The International Day for Older Persons – 2025 was celebrated at the new Convention Hall of Utkal University, organized by the Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC-IPS). The event was sponsored by the National Resource Centre for Women and Child Development (NRCWCD), Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
The celebration was inaugurated by Minister of Law, Shri Prithviraj Harichandan, in the presence of Smt. Surama Padhi, Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University Prof. Jageswar Dandapat, former Chief Secretary Sahadev Sahu, NRCWCD Secretary Sukanta Kumar Parida, and senior journalist Nageswar Pattnaik, among other dignitaries.
On this occasion, a seminar was held on the theme:
“Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-being, Our Rights.”
In the morning session, NSS and NCC students organized a walkathon to create awareness about the rights and welfare of senior citizens. Additionally, a health check-up camp was organized by doctors from KIMS Hospital, providing medical assistance to the elderly participants.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan stated that the state government is fully committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of senior citizens, ensuring that their dignity and well-being remain a top priority.
