Kakatpur, 4th Sept 2025: Kakatpur, located in the Puri district, is a well-known cultural hub and a major commercial center in the entire district, especially in the Asurang region. However, during the rainy season, rainwater accumulates and creates puddles on the main road from Medical Chowk to College Chowk in Kakatpur. Due to this, even to go to the nearby Thuba Bazaar from the side of the main road, people have to wade through water and mud.
The environment around Thuba is full of garbage, and wherever you step, there is thick mud. Three years ago, the Puri Public Works Department (PWD) division had constructed the main road from Nuagada to Nimapada at a cost of ₹40 crores. This construction was carried out under the Kakatpur Public Works Department Sub-Division.
However, the road has been built so poorly and unevenly that in some places the road is sunken while in others there are gaps. As a result, during the rainy season, water collects on the road at different spots to a depth of 1 to 2 feet.
Despite repeated demands from local residents and various business groups in the area to build proper drainage for rainwater disposal, the PWD officials have not given much importance to these complaints. People from various quarters have raised concerns about this.
Even though administrative officials and politicians have been regularly visiting this dilapidated road, they remain silent about the issue, leading to suspicion among the general public about possible hidden reasons behind the inaction.
The divisional minister has now taken note of this and directed immediate steps for drainage construction on the main road from Medical Chowk to College Chowk and Style Bazaar in Kakatpur to resolve the problem of stagnant rainwater.
Local residents are strongly demanding the prompt construction of drainage to avoid further inconvenience and waterlogging.
