New Delhi, Dec, 20: Free Wi-Fi service has been provided at 6,117 railway stations. For using this service, no personal information is required from users, except for the mobile number used on the railway network; Wi-Fi provided at stations and in rake/coach areas can be accessed without sharing personal details.
Information has been given that necessary steps have been taken to ensure the smooth functioning of the Wi-Fi facility. Similarly, to ensure passenger safety, CCTV surveillance arrangements have been made at 1,731 stations and in 11,953 coaches.
At New Delhi railway station, CCTV systems had already been installed earlier to monitor entry and exit points. The system has since been further developed and upgraded, and similar facilities have now been extended to other major stations as well.
This information was provided by the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
