Bhubaneswar, 23rd July 2025: A heartwarming moment unfolded during the “Save the Constitution” campaign held today at Baramunda, when Rahul Gandhi personally invited a little girl named Nilam Bastia onto the stage.
Nilam, originally from Cuttack, had come to the event with her uncle Sameer Kumar Khuntia. As Rahul waved to the crowd, Nilam waved back—prompting Rahul to call her up to the dais. He gently seated her beside him and spent a few moments speaking warmly with her.
Rahul asked the girl several questions—her name, class, school, where she came from, and what games she liked. As a gesture of affection, he gifted her a chocolate, encouraged her to study well, and praised her spirit.
Nilam expressed her dream to become an IAS officer, and “enter politics afterward.” She later told reporters, “I really like Rahul Gandhi. He is not just a leader—he’s like a big brother or a father.” With tears of joy in her eyes, she added, “One day I want to see him as the topmost leader in the country.”
Her uncle, Sameer Kumar Khuntia, shared that Nilam had long wished to meet Rahul Gandhi. Although she missed the chance during his visits to Rourkela and Sambalpur, she had been eagerly waiting for this day. When they heard Rahul would be coming to Baramunda, Sameer contacted the organizers weeks in advance and worked tirelessly over the past two days to make Nilam’s wish come true.
Thanks to the cooperation of the event team, Nilam finally got her moment on stage—a memory she and her family will cherish forever.
