Nandapur, 11th Oct 2025:  In Koraput district headquarters Mahakumara, a shop collapsed in the Vishwasaray Market Complex, resulting in the death of the shopkeeper. Following the incident, the district administration has instructed the Road and Building Construction Department officials to inspect the condition of all government buildings in the district headquarters.

This move has been welcomed, and there is a request to conduct a thorough inspection throughout the district, including the district headquarters.

Currently, the Road and Building Construction Department, along with Education and Welfare, Revenue, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, Police, Drought Protection, Water Conservation Projects, Women and Child Development departments, and other government bodies, have identified over a hundred damaged, abandoned, and hazardous houses. Some of these houses have been declared dangerous and vacated, while others remain in a dilapidated state.

These houses pose a risk of collapse that could cause loss of life and property.

Locations of Unsafe Government Buildings:

Office of Engineering Department at Nandapur Block headquarters

Revenue Dak Bangla

Several Revenue Inspectors’ offices

These government buildings in Nandapur have been deemed unsafe and hazardous.

Current Situation and Demands:

Many of these houses are now inhabited by stray children and have become dumping grounds for garbage and reptiles.

Some abandoned government buildings have been illegally occupied by certain people.

There is an urgent demand to inspect all these dangerous buildings before any untoward incident occurs.

For those buildings that cannot be repaired, there is a call for their complete demolition and removal of debris from the premises.

It has been noted that despite repeated reports, the concerned departmental officials have brought this issue to the attention of higher authorities multiple times without adequate action.

The Nandapur block, Koraput district administration, and the state government are requested to take serious note of this matter and act accordingly.
