Bhubaneswar, 30th Oct 2025: Authorities of the Indravati Hydroelectric Project have alerted the public with sirens regarding the possible release of water from the Indravati reservoir at any moment.
Due to the impact of the coastal cyclone, there is concern that the water level in the upper Indravati reservoir at Khatiguda in Tentulikunti Block may rise. Considering this potential situation, a precautionary warning has been issued about the possible release of water from the reservoir.
Officials of the Indravati Hydroelectric Project are using sirens to warn people living along the banks of the Indravati River. The reservoir’s maximum water storage capacity is 642 meters, while the current water level is 640.820 meters.
Authorities have requested people living in the lower areas of the Indravati River not to use the river and to move their livestock away from the river banks. During the night, all river-related activities have been completely prohibited. The project has also issued a notice stating that any damage caused by violating these instructions will not be the responsibility of the authorities.
The additional chief engineer of the Upper Indravati Dam Division has indicated that, if water is released, it could affect the riverbank areas of Tentulikunti, Nandahandi, Nabarangpur, and Kosagumuda Blocks.b
The reservoir currently holds 89.16% of its capacity, and the authorities will decide on water release based on rainfall and the amount of water in the reservoir.
