Nabarangpur, 22nd Aug 2025: The environment is being completely degraded, with forests disappearing and water being misused. To prevent this, every individual should plant a tree in the name of their mother and take care of it, ensuring environmental protection for future generations.
At Nabarangpur Vidya Niketan College, a “Paribesh Panchayat” (Environmental Assembly) organized by Sambad highlighted this issue. The chief guest, MLA Gaurishankar Majhi, stressed that small efforts toward protecting the environment are crucial for the planet. He emphasized that our ancestors revered water, land, forests, and trees, performing rituals and planting trees before any journey or ceremony. He urged everyone to continue this practice through tree plantation and care.
MLA Majhi also announced that the college will organize a forest festival in the coming days to recognize and reward students who take proper care of the trees they plant.
Guest of honor, social worker Jagannath Mahapatra, pointed out that deforestation is the main reason forests like those in Kalahandi are no longer visible, and encouraged everyone to dedicate themselves to planting trees in their children’s names. Another guest, Purnachandra Nanda, forest officer of Kodinga range, highlighted efforts by the Forest Department to teach people how to care for forests. Awareness about the importance of the environment was spread through various public outreach initiatives. He added that until people start seeing forests as their own “mother,” protecting them will remain difficult.
The program was chaired by Sai Ramesh Rao, President of Sambad Sahitya Ghar. Nature enthusiast Tapan Bishoi delivered the vote of thanks. The event was conducted by Suresh Kumar Naidu, district representative of Sambad, and Ambika Dash, Kanak TV representative.
College officials including Digvijay Singh, Ashok Mahapatra, Ramprasad Patra, Vijay Chaudhury, Jagadish Chandra Tripathy, Kahnu Dash, Prabhasini Mahanti, Jahnavi Panda, Swagatika Chaudhury, Pradeep Sahu, Parshuram Sahu, and Subrat Behera pledged to actively work for environmental protection.
