Primary Teachers Demand Full Central Pay Scale, Threaten Indefinite Protest

Bhubaneswar,31st July 2025:  Before the upcoming monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, primary school teachers under the Level V (A) category have demanded salaries at the unrevised central pay scale with Grade Pay of ₹4200. If their demands are not met, they have warned of an indefinite protest in front of the Assembly.

This announcement came during a press conference in Bhubaneswar where union leaders Vivekananda Behera, Ajit Maharana, Pradeepta Behera, Prakash Narayan Jena, Smrutiranjan Bej, Subhasmita Sadangi, Karubaki Panda, and Swarnaprabha Nayak stated that over 70,000 teachers under this category have been serving under the state government for many years. However, they are currently being paid at a Grade Pay of ₹2200, which, according to them, is not followed by any other state in India.

They criticized the current arrangement as unconstitutional and discriminatory, leaving them neglected despite their long service. The union has firmly demanded implementation of ₹4200 Grade Pay and central-level salary structure before the monsoon session begins.

They made it clear that the protest will continue until their demands are fulfilled.
